HDP’s provincial co-chair of Van Yakup Ataş stated that 20 percent of ballots and envelops had been missing in the polling stations in Van and the county election boards had sent unstamped ballots and envelops to the stations after having being informed on the situation.
On the referendum day the Supreme Board of Elections (SBE) had issued instructions to consider ballots that improperly stamped by Ballot Box Committees (BBC) and those without a BBC control stamp as valid. The letter given after the counting of votes in some BBC’s had commenced.
SBE’s instruction had been reacted harshly by the opposition and the situation dubbed as blemish. Main opposition party CHP had appealed to the SBE to nullify the referendum.
Yakup Ataş claimed that some electors were given unsealed “YES” voted ballots by AKP members and asked to cast them and then return the sealed ballots in return for money. He said “We think that they intervened the 20 percent of votes by this method. We appealed the BBC’s. In fact “NO” campaign won in our district. AKP wasn’t able to win though it had made use of all state means and oppressed the public through military power. Even if this fraudulent taken as valid AKP lost at least 2000 votes.”
According to unofficial results YES: 42.72; NO: 57.28 in Van.
