Professor Sami Selçuk, the Honorary President of the Supreme Court of Appeals of Turkey slammed the draft proposal of new constitution which proposed changes bring the executive presidency, in his article on Tuesday’s Cumhuriyet daily.
Selçuk, who is also former First President of Court of Cassation of Turkey, suggests that in a such a system even a president with democratic conscience will have to be dictator and rule the society with oppressive totalitarian regime. In short, according to professor, the proposed draft aims to prescribe mandatory totalitarianism that even who are advocating these changes will have to regret and accept slavery.
Selçuk says; if the changes pass into law, there will no longer be a constitution in our country. Turkey will no longer be a “Constitutional State” based on constitution but a “state with a constitution”.
